If your goal is to save substantial amount of money, you will have to make noticeable changes to your lifestyle. What can I say? Sometimes saving money requires certain sacrifices.

1. Restaurants and fast food places

Restaurants and fast food places are some of the biggest money eaters. I don't know your particular situation and food preferences, but cooking meals on your own including work lunches can save you thousands of dollars yearly. If you save as little as $80 a week cooking on your own, it amounts to $4,160 in yearly savings.

2. Do your own chores

You pay someone to clean your house, wash your car, mow your loan and do other small chores. These services can easily amount to couple hundred dollars monthly. If you are in good health, you should seriously consider doing some of these things on your own in order to save money.

3. Keep your car after you paid it off

Some people buy a new car right after they paid off their old one. If you just finished paying your auto loan and your car is in a good condition, you can save tons of money driving “loan free” car for a few years.

Suppose you are facing a choice between paying $400 a month for a new car and keeping the car you just paid off. If you drive your old car for three more years, you will save $15,400. Even if you had to spend couple thousands on repairs, you would still save a substantial amount of money.

4. Coffee shops

Regular coffee shop visitors spend a lot of money without really noticing it. Four weekly coffee shop visits at $4 each will cost you $832 a year. This is amount of money you will save if you are going to stop going to coffee shops all together. However if you just managed to cut your visits to twice a week, you would still save a lot of money - $431 a year.
